INTRODUCTION

Kuantan Port Authority is a Federal Statutory Body established under the Port Authorities Act, 1963, and is placed under the purview of the Ministry of Transport, Malaysia.

The construction of Kuantan Port started in 1975 and was completed by the end of 1979. The port started partial operations in 1980 and was fully operational in 1984.

The operation of Kuantan Port was privatized to Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd (KPC) on 1 January 1998.

Subsequent to this, the Kuantan Port Authority took on the role of regulator and facilitator.

The motto of the Authority has also been changed to reflect it s new roles and functions and now reads as: ‘Act as a regulator and facilitator to establish Kuantan Port in becoming a prime time trading center which is continually provided with optimal and quality facilities and services for the benefit of port users and to ensure successful and regularity running of operation, development and progress of the Port.’
